Congratulations Roast Magazine's "2012 Roaster of the Year" 

Portland Roasting and Bird Rock Coffee Roasters have taken the top honors in Roast magazine’s eighth annual Roaster of the Year competition. The two coffee roasting companies are featured in the trade publication’s November/December 2011 issue.

Roast magazine’s Roaster of the Year award recognizes companies that roast coffees of superior quality, exemplify a dedication to sustainable practices and employee education, and demonstrate a commitment to the coffee industry, among other criteria.

Two categories of the award are presented each year. Portland Roasting of Portland, Ore., claimed the top spot in the large (macro) roaster category, which includes companies roasting more than 100,000 pounds of coffee each year. 

Bird Rock Coffee Roasters of La Jolla, Calif., won in the small (micro) roaster category, for companies roasting less than 100,000 pounds of coffee each year. 

Roast magazine is a bi-monthly technical trade magazine dedicated to the success and growth of the specialty coffee industry. Roast addresses the art, science and business of coffee roasters by covering the issues most important to them with quality editorial content focused on the technical aspects of coffee.
