The "Scoop" from the Hawaiian Energy Kona Coffee Farm

Boris here, feeling a bit flabbergasted.  All along I have been working hard at managing the Hawaiian Energy Coffee farm with the purpose of providing our customers with the very best 100% Kona coffee. Well...wait until you hear this.  On a recent work day, I overheard a conversation that exposed the true purpose of the girls and I living on the Kona coffee farm.  We are not here to manage this farm, we are here to fertilize.  Yes, fertilize.  Imagine my surprise to hear that we are here for our poop.  Yes, POOP.

I was feeling ready to move along to find another position with a little more, let's say, “respect”. I did a little research and decided that the role of Chief Fertilizer for the Kona coffee is actually quite important on the coffee farm.  To sum it up....goose manure is quite the gardening asset. Rich in fertilizers, it is black gold to plants.   Manure gets paid the proper respect in a quote by D.H. Lawrence, an English novelist and poet.  "The fairest thing in nature, a flower, still has its roots in earth and manure."

Manure adds organic matter, which helps soil retain moisture and structure which prevents compaction, helps prevent nutrients from leaching away and  balances extremes in soil pH.  Just like humans need to eat to maintain our health, soil needs continual replenishment of its organic matter to decompose into humus. Humus helps create a rich, moisture-retaining soil and makes nutrients available to plants.

There you have it: The scoop on poop!  With this information, I think I may ask for a pond with a diving board...maybe a covered shelter too.  Gotta go now...I have some “business” to do.
