Drink Coffee ~ Be Happy

Coffee drinkers who sip several cups a day might have a new reason to be happy.  Daily coffee has been linked to a lower risk of depression, according to a study published by Archives of Internal Medicine.

The 10-year cohort study, which looked at more than 50,000 women, found that as coffee-intake increased, depression risk decreased.

Women who drank two to three cups of coffee per day had a 15 percent decreased risk for depression, compared to women who drank only one cup per day, according to an article from Medscape.  Women who drank four cups of coffee per day had a 20 percent decreased risk.

Caffeine’s connection with depression has not previously been a popular area of study, the Medscape article states.  Coffee is the most popular form of caffeine being consumed. Caffeine is the most widely used stimulant in the world, with nearly 80 percent consumed in the form of coffee, according to the Archives of Internal Medicine release.
