Caffeine...a Pesticide? Who Knew?

Caffeine is a natural pesticide that can be found in the fruit, leaves and seeds of some plants. The caffeine is a defense mechanism used by the plants against any insect eating it.  The caffeine will paralyze and kill the invading pest.

Fortunately, for humans, coffee is a stimulant that makes us feel more awake and alert. It’s considered a psychoactive drug, but is completely legal in most of the world. In North America, at least 90% consume caffeine in one form or another daily.

Keep enjoying your daily cup(s) of Joe!
