Marketing 2011

Marketing 2011 - Making Sense of Marketing and Choosing New Avenues as We Realize the Infinite Facets of the Electronic World We Live In

In my last blog, I shared the experience of finding myself in a new small business, Hawaiian Energy Sports. I touched on the importance of branding as a piece of marketing your business and/or product.  Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Social Media, as I have come to learn, has increasingly become more important and the importance continues to grow.

Standing Alone, Looking For The Direction To SEO
This is uncharted territory for me.  I am finding that the more I learn, there is still yet much more to discover. I was introduced to the electronic medium when we were starting the process of getting a website up and running.  As I quickly learned, there was much more to a website than the appearance, there is search engine optimization (SEO).  SEO  is the activity on, behind and beyond each web page that is important to attract search engines which, in turn, bring visitors to the site.

Social Media
With so many platforms on which to perform, social media in itself is a whole new world.  Beyond facebook and twitter, there are websites on which you can publish articles, such as Knol.  There are sites on which you can blog, for example Blogger.  As well as websites, such as StumbleUpon and Digg, on which you can "share" things that you find interesting.  I am learning that photo sharing sites (Flickr, Photobucket and Picasso, to name a few) are also great avenues for sharing your business with the public.  All these social media sites, and many more, can be utilized with the hopes of attracting readers back to your website.

Search Engine Optimization
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is about research and utilizing proper methods to optimize your website. Making the task more difficult is the fact that the standards continue to change.  The SEO puzzle is constantly changing, making the task even difficult for the seasoned web designer.   With the recent change in Google’s search algorithm, even more importance is placed on social media sites, such as facebook, while minimizing the effectiveness of SEO manipulation tactics.

Search Engine Optimization Link Building
SEO link building appears to be the “buzz” in improving performance of online businesses.  Considered as one of the more difficult techniques, with quantity not holding as much clout as the quality of the links (quality and relevant links to quality and reputable websites).

Content, Content, Content
Content, including key words, are the ‘information highways” window displays.  With all the traffic on the Internet, the goal of content is to attract visitors to your site and keep them there.  “Tagging” is no longer synonymous to graffiti artists, it now is known for choosing those key words that will attract the attention of the web crawlers.  This was a whole new perspective to me.  Feeling passionate about the product I am offering, I had to change my perspective on the information that was being provided on the Hawaiian Energy Sports website.  In addition to telling the story about the company and product, I needed to do so using words that would impress and attract the search engines to bring visitors to the website.   An analogy I heard recently, that I found interesting, was thinking of  the website as a billboard.   No matter how attractive a billboard is, it must be in a "location" where it will be seen.  It's about moving the "billboard" from the desert (where nobody will see it) and strategically positioning it along the highway.

SEP (Search Engine PATIENCE)
I have also learned that Search Engine Optimization, no matter how well executed, doesn’t happen overnight. Not only is it necessary to understand all these factors, you must be patient too...and wait for it to come together.

Digital Media
As I wait for the search engines/web crawlers to do their work, Hawaiian Energy Sports has partnered with a Max 8 Media to deliver the message about Hawaiian Energy Shotz on a digital platform - digital advertising screens.  These screens are in “high traffic” areas such as restaurants and golf clubs.  The Hawaiian Energy Sports impressions will premier in Big City Diner’s and Senor Frogs located on the island of Oahu. The venues will change, so look for the Hawaiian Energy Sports on the Max 8 Media monitor near you.

Grass Roots Marketing
I am enjoying the “grass roots” approach of marketing the business.  With the wonderful technology we have, meeting people face-to-face is still very important.    Personally meeting with buyers and brokers, and closing our business with a handshake, has allowed me to get to get to know the people I am doing business with and forming a friendship beyond the business relationship.  Setting up at events has allowed me to meet the consumers, our potential customers,  and share with them the passion and intention behind Hawaiian Energy Shotz while hearing their experiences and what they are looking for in an energy drink product.

I continue to learn and look forward to sharing my ongoing experience.  Mahalo.

Some time we are very concerned about our health, we do not understand what to do ... It's very easy to make better health. we must use Nature made vitamins. Vitamins function in many metabolic reactions which take place as food is utilized in the body, Vitamins control metabolism and energy of our body.

Mahalo for commenting again @Anna Grace. We do need to take extra care in managing our health, making sure that we fuel our bodies with all the nutrients necessary to keep us healthy. My main focus on developing Hawaiian Energy Shotz was to produce a product with quality ingredients, that would provide short-term and long-term benefits.
