Moloka'i Challenge - Youth In Motion

August 13, 2011

Maui start time 7 am - 1 pm  l  Moloka'i start time 2 pm

(see website for details)

There's only 15 miles between Maui and Molokai, however the Pailolo Channel is one of the windiest and roughest of the Hawaiian Island channels. Molokai Challenge competitors will be Sailing, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Wind Surfing, Kite Surfing, Kite Canoeing and Kite Catamarans sailing all in support of Youth in Motion on Moloka’i.  NEW for this year, teams can be more creative and find other forms of non motorized crafts that can be added to the list of previous crafts.

The Molokai Challenge will consist of two courses, the first from Maui to Molokai (Kamalo Harbor) and the second from Kamalo, Molokai to Kaunakakai Harbor. Teams can sign up for either course or if they are up for it DO BOTH.

Youth In Motion is to "Empower, Equip, Educate, Challenge and Motivate Youth through activities that engage and develop their mental, emotional, creative, and physical skills on the land and in the ocean".

The Molokai Challenge started in 2003.  8 year old Connor Baxter and 9 year old Kai Lenny showed what was possible and paved the way for other youth to follow. Baker Grant and Zane Schweitzerand are just a few who followed the tradition of youth making this crossing.
