Auntie Mary Jane Hei Hei Long Distance Race

18th Annual Auntie Mary Jane Hei Hei

Short Course

9:00 am  l  6 miles  l  Keauhou to Kamoa Point and back

Long Course

15 min. after short course finish  l  8 miles  l  Keauhou Bay to Casa de Emdeko and back

Mary Jane Kahanamoku developed this race 17 years ago as an alternative paddling activity on high school graduation day. The race has a unique format featuring all mixed crews - 3 women and 3 men in each canoe. Paddlers create their own crews by mixing and matching from any club to enter the various divisions.

The season finale of the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association's 2011 season

The race starts from 3 locations:

  • 10 a.m. at Kalapaki Beach - 28 mile course, the longest race, for Sailing Canoes, OC-6, OC-9 and OC-10
  • 10:30 a.m. at both Po`ipu Beach Park - 19 mile course for OC-1, OC-2, standup paddlers, surf skis, kite surfers and a relay. 
  • 10:30 am at Port Allen -  9 mile course for OC-1, OC-2, standup paddlers, surf skis, kite surfers and a relay.

The Kendall Pacific Cup is named after Kendall Struxness, who died in April from cancer. Struxness founded the race and put up the money for it.

Kualoa Beach Park, Oahu  l  September 10, 2011

Course: Short Prologue in the morning for all adults. Final race will be one lap from Kualoa Beach Park around Chinaman’s Hat (Mokoli’i Island) and back to the beach. Youth races will be conducted on the more sheltered prologue course

Divisions: 15 and Under, 18 and Under, Open Men and Women.

Prize giveaways throughout the day  from race sponsors. Bring the whole family and enjoy an event on Kane’ohe Bay. This race is open to any rudderless single person outrigger canoe. 


Na Wahine Festival

13th Annual Na Wahine Festival

September 11, 2011  l  Kapiolani Park  l  Waikiki, HI

Four events:

  • Na Wahine Sprint Triathlon: 500m swim/12 mile bike/5K run
  • Na Wahine Sprint Duathlon: 1 mile run/12 mile bike/5K run
  • Na Wahine Super Sprint Triathlon: 250m swim/6 mile bike/1.5 mile run
  • Swim and Spin: 500m swim/12 mile bike
